Vanilla, Chocolate, Lychee
Beat the heat and try something new at Chinatown Ice Cream Factory—voted best ice cream in NYC 3 years running. While you can get a decent scoop of vanilla pretty much anywhere in the city, we think their more unusual flavors like almond cookie, red bean and black sesame are worth the trip downtown (try the taro—you'll thank us later). 65 Bayard btw. Mott & Elizabeth.

Jump in! Well, figuratively speaking.
The string of free summer events continues on July 27th at 2pm, with psychedelic rockers MGMT performing live at JellyNYC's next "pool party" in McCarren Park. MGMT's music is self-described as "surf/ jungle/ country." We're not sure what that means, but we think they sound like T. Rex meets Scissor Sisters—in other words, the perfect vibe for chilling out in the middle of an empty pool on a hot July afternoon. Also performing are The Ting Tings and Black Moth Super Rainbow, so head on over and enjoy the show—just remember to leave your swimmies at home.

The Taste of Summer
Mix 2 scoops vanilla ice cream, 1/2c milk and a few tbs. chocolate syrup in a blender and you've got a black & white shake. If that takes too much effort (or counter space), you can always conduct your own taste-test of some of Manhattan's favorite shake spots: Shake Shack (Madison Square Park), Stand (24 E 12th), and Lexington Candy Shop (1226 Lex) are all fine places to start the slurping.

Jammin'
With fresh artists like Santogold performing for free in Central Park, being broke and fabulous in NYC has never been simpler. Check her out—along with Diplo, A-Trak, Kid Cudi, Blaqstarr and Mz Streamz—for a night of grimy hip hop, ghettotech and electro-pop (well, that's what the kids are saying these days) on July 20th at Summerstage.
